Abstract
Predicting the need for care in the coming decades requires direct measurem ent of need in birth cohorts, allowing for differentiation with respect to age, generation effects, and the effect of period of time. The method of ch oice is a simulation of regular contacts with the services, implicit criter ia of need for service, and a panel approach with measurement at three poin ts in time.
