L. Boccardo et Chs. Penteado, Thermal limits in relation to acclimation in the neotropical millipede Gymnostreptus olivaceus (Diplopoda, Spirostreptidae), STUD NEOTR, 33(2-3), 1998, pp. 165-169
The neotropical millipede, Gymnostreptus olivaceus, lives at ambient temper
atures of about 20 degrees C. Its thermal tolerance was tested after acclim
ation to lower and higher temperatures as occurs under winter and summer co
nditions in the south and southeast regions of Brazil. An increase in toler
ance to low temperatures was found in adapted specimens. The ecological asp
ects of this capability are discussed.
