A pair of arctic foxes was radio-tracked in two consecutive summers in Nort
h East Greenland. The pair using the same den had one pup in 1996, and at f
irst six and at last three pups in 1997. In both years, lemmings which are
an important food source for the foxes in the study area were nor abundant.
The foxes enlarged their home ranges (convex polygons) from one year to the
other: in 1996 23,74 km(2) (male) and 35,34 km(2) (female), in 1997 54,52
km(2) and 62,01 km(2), respectively. The land surface was equal for both fo
xes, about 15 km(2) in 1996 and 34 km(2) in 1997. These values are relative
ly high compared to arctic fox home ranges from other areas.
