Abstract
Three new species of Gymnopilus subgenus Gymnopilus section Microspori are described from eastern Australia. These are Gymnopilus marginatus, Gymnopil us patriae and Gymnopilus parvisporus. Because of their frequently excentri cally stipitate habit and small spore size, the species are compared with P yrrhoglossum pyrrhum (Berk. & M.A.Curtis) Singer, the type species of the g enus Pyrriloglossum, whose presence is also recorded from Australia for the first time. Pigment content of all four species has been examined by thin layer chromatography. Styrylpyrone pigments bis-noryangonin and hispidin we re detected in only two of the three Gymnopilus species. Although yellow pi gment can be extracted from Pyrrhoglossum pyrrhum, it does not contain bis- noryangonin or hispidin.
