Zinc and cadmium concentrations in crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) soft tiss
ues las edible portion) were measured after exposure to zinc and cadmium at
0, 25, 50, or 100 mu g/L for 96 h at 10 or 20 degrees C, and compared to e
nvironmental standards for human consumption. Results demonstrated that no
significant change occurred in the concentrations of zinc in soft tissues o
f crayfish under the given conditions. Net accumulation of cadmium was obse
rved at all experimental exposures, and exceeded the maximum allowed for hu
man consumption only for those crayfish exposed to 100 (mu g/L at 20 degree
s C.
