Abstract
This review considers whether there are any potential training methods to e nhance the development of perceptual skill in sport The efficacy of general ized visual skills training programs and move cognitively-based interventio ns are considered Although research has neglected to examine whether improv ements in perceptual skill transfer to the performance concert, sport-speci fic training programs which develop the Knowledge base underlying skilled p erception are likely to be more effective than clinically-based visual skil ls training programs. Video technology or simulation may be particularly ef fective, when coupled with appropriate instructional techniques, in develop ing perceptual expertise in sport. Several practical and theoretical issues related to the design, implementation, and evaluation of perceptual traini ng programs in sport ave discussed and future research directions highlight ed.
