Abstract
Molecular orientation in non-crystalline rubbed polyimide films for a liqui d crystal display device (LCD) was characterized by grazing incidence X-ray scattering. The scattered X-ray intensity profiles clearly showed anisotro py in the molecular orientation of the rubbed polyimide film. It was clarif ied that the monomer units of the polyimide align in parallel to the rubbin g direction and that the average spacing between polyimide chains is about 0.55 nm.
