By means of CALPHAD technique, the Cu-La system was critically assessed. Th
e solution phases (liquid. b.c.c., f.c.c. and d.h.c.p.) are modeled with th
e Redlich-Kister equation, and the intermetallic compounds treated as stoic
hiometric compounds. Self-consistent thermodynamic parameters of the Cu-La
system were obtained. The calculations agree well with experiments. (C) 199
