A single phase intermetallic compound Ti3Al having DO19 structure (hexagona
l) was hydrogenated by cathodic charging. The structure was monitored by X-
ray diffraction (XRD) at different charging times. The XRD results were ana
lyzed by Rietveld refinement and it was found that electrolytic charging pr
oduces a hexagonal hydride phase having lattice parameters a=5.858+/-0.002
Angstrom, c=4.657+/-0.002 Angstrom, unlike gas charging samples which produ
ces a cubic hydride. Strong orientation of hydride phase in [002] direction
