Zs. Hou et al., Interaction of sodium dodecylbenezen sulfonate with polymer as studied by surface tension, ESR and UV-vis spectroscopy, J DISP SCI, 20(5), 1999, pp. 1507-1516
The interaction between sodium dodecylbenezen sulfonate(SDBS) and Poly(ethy
lene oxide) (PEO) has been studied, using surface tension and dye solubiliz
ation to determine the critical micelle concentration(CMC) without PEG, the
critical aggregate concentration(cac) and polymer saturation concentration
(c(2)) in the presence of FED. The structure of surfactant-polymer complexe
s is analyzed by ESR and UV-vis spectra. For SDBS-PEO system, the result in
dicates that ploymer-surfactant complexes have a more "open" structure than
the ordinary micelles. The polymer molecules may penetrate into the palisa
de of the micelles. Polyacrylamide(PAm) molecules remain in bulk solution a
s free molecules, and do not interact with SDBS.
