Vs. Avlonitis et Sr. Large, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: Surgical management of mitral regurgitation and atrial fibrillation, J HEART V D, 8(4), 1999, pp. 463-465
Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is associated with fatal cardiovascular complication
s and intraoperative death. The lack of literature on cardiac surgery in th
e syndrome makes it difficult for surgeons to assess the risk of an operati
on and to choose optimal treatment. We describe the ease of a 63-year-old m
an with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type I or II, mitral regurgitation and atria
l fibrillation who was managed successfully with mitral valve repair and su
rgical cardioversion.
