A method for the fabrication of Co-Pd alloy films with perpendicular anisot
ropy is proposed and magnetic and magnetooptical properties of the films ar
e investigated. In particular, the films with Co content of 18 at% deposite
d by this method on quartz glass substrates have the coercive force of 750
Oe and Kerr rotation 0.22 degrees at 630 nm wavelength. It is found that pe
rpendicular magnetic anisotropy, large squareness: factor of hysteresis loo
p and rather high magnitude Of Kerr rotation angles can be obtained simulta
