A model of a paramagnetic isotropic elastic material with small Young's mod
ulus is proposed, wherein the stress tensor contains additional terms invol
ving products of strain and held components. The new 'cross' terms produce
an effective Young's modulus which depends on the magnetic field, whereas t
he classical model does: not predict an influence of a magnetic field on de
