Abstract
A novel triterpene saponin (1) was isolated from an ethanol extract of the root bark of Aralia dasyphylla. Its structure was elucidated as 3-O-[beta-D -glucopyranosyl ( 1 --> 3)-beta-D-galactopyranosyl( 1 --> 2)]-beta-D-glucur onopyranosyl-oleanolic acid-28-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside, according to spect ral and chemical evidence. Compound 1 showed significant cytotoxic activity against KB and Hela-S-3 cells.
