Three new triorganotin(IV) complexes, the trimethyl, tributyl and triphenyl
derivatives of 5-(4-chlorophenylazo)salicylic acid, have been synthesised
and characterised by H-1, C-13, Sn-119 NMR, IR and elemental analysis and t
he crystal structure of triphenyltin-5-(4-chlorophenylazo)salicylate is rep
orted. The crystals are monoclinic, space group P2(1)/n with a = 9.566(1) A
ngstrom, b = 14.550(2) Angstrom, c = 22.528(3) Angstrom, beta = 94.04(1), V
= 3127.8(7) Angstrom(3), Z = 4 and D-calc = 1.42 Mg.m(-3). There is an enc
apsulated molecule of hexane incorporated in the structure. This complex ad
opts a monomeric distorted tetrahedral configuration with the ligand coordi
nated via a carboxylate oxygen.
