Abstract
A new fungal species, Furculomyces septentrionalis, was found living in the hindgut of Chironomidae larvae in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA. Th e two previously known species of the genus inhabit the hindguts of Austral ian Chironomidae larvae, thus leading to an unexpected disjunct distributio n for the genus. The new fungus is the second species of Furculomyces to be cultured axenically.
