Understanding and evaluating the health effects of prolonged exposure to lo
w radiation doses, as opposed to shorter exposure to higher doses, has stil
l a long way to go. Answers to these questions cannot be provided by epidem
iological studies alone, and so the input of radio-biologists to help focus
the work of epidemiologists will become increasingly important in the futu
re. This paper discusses the current research status in this field and emph
asizes the importance of interaction between radiation epidemiologists and
radiation biologists.
