Abstract
The diagnosis and treatment of scoliosis in the infantile and juvenile age groups is a challenging and demanding endeavor. The diagnosis must be firml y established. Once a deformity has proven to be progressive, surgical inte rvention will likely be necessary because orthotic treatment is less effect ive in these cases. The surgeon is then faced with the dilemma of deciding on the most appropriate surgical treatment.
