Abstract
We solve the higher order nonlinear Schrodinger equation describing the pro pagation of ultrashort pulses in optical fibers. By means of the coupled am plitude-phase formulation fundamental (solitary wave) dark soliton solution s are found. [S1063-651X(99)51407-4].
