A novel insect-specific neurotoxin named as BmK alpha IT01 hits been isolat
ed from the venom of scorpion Buthus martensii Karsch by gel filtration,: i
on-exchange and reverse phase HPLC. It was characterized by Electrospray Ma
ss Spectroscopy, amino acid analysis and toxicity in Blattella germanica co
ckroach (PU50 24.16 +/- 0.43 mu g/kg). The primary amino acid sequence of t
he toxin was determined by the automatic sequencing of peptide fragments li
berated by TPCK-trypsin and endoproteinase Glu-C digestion of reduced and S
-carboxymethylated toxin.
