M. Empl et al., T cell subsets and expression of integrins in peripheral blood of patientswith migraine and chronic tension type headache, KEY T BRAIN, 1999, pp. 153-156
Neurogenic inflammation of dural Vessels has been hypothesised to be an ess
ential part of migraine physiopathology. Analysis of lymphocyte subpopulati
ons and integrin expression in the peripheral blood of headache patients (m
igraine and chronic tension type headache) showed an elevated proportion of
T-helper cells and T-helper memory cells as well as a higher expression of
LFA-1 on T-helper and T-suppressor cells. This could be a sign of enhanced
endothelium and lymphocyte interaction as it would be expected in an infla
mmatory process of cranial vessels.
