During the voyage of HMS Beagle to Chile in 1832-1835, Charles Darwin made
248 collections of vascular plants: 1 clubmoss, 16 ferns, 35 monocots, and
166 dicots. His collections yielded 62 new taxa, 10 named for him; 126 of t
he specimens are type specimens of various kinds. Each collection is discus
sed in this paper, as are those reported to have been collected by Darwin i
n Chile that have not been found. Comments on the plants and on Chilean veg
etation made by Darwin in his notebooks, journal, and publications are incl
uded.
