Abstract
The cyclohexadienyl alcohol (3) on treatment with thionyl chloride and pyri dine provided the tetrahydronaphthalene (4) whose transformation to the car bomethoxy tetralone (7), a key intermediate for platphyllide (8), has been accomplished in four steps.
