F. Baba-moussa et al., Comparison of the antimicrobial activity of leaves and stem bark of Pteleopsis suberosa G. Don (Combretaceae), ACT BOT GAL, 145(3), 1998, pp. 233-238
The stem bark of Pteleopsis suberosa, a west African dry savannah Combretac
eae shrub, is used in Benin and Togo against dermatitis. This study proves
the antimicrobial activities of the stem bark on Microsporum gypseum, Epide
rmophyton floccosum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophylon rubrum and C
andida albicans. The leaves of this plant show the same activities. These f
acts confirm P, suberosa stem bark traditional uses and establish that the
leaves of this plant can be used for sustainable utilisation of this specie
s in order to preserve it from disappearance.
