Communication: A sugar-binding polymer film capable of continuous sensing a
rises from the copolymerization of aniline and 3-aminophenylboronic acid. I
ts absorption spectrum between 500 and 800 nm undergoes large changes on ad
dition of various saccharides at neutral pH, changes which are dependent on
the saccharide concentration and are fully reversible. These films represe
nt an interesting alternative to enzyme-based glucose sensors because of th
eir ease of preparation, compatibility with LED and diode laser light sourc
es, and their thermal and temporal stability.
