Abstract
Family-based preventive intervention for substance use and antisocial behav ior is introduced as an emerging specialty. Major program parameters are ou tlined and intervention techniques endorsed by contemporary models ape pres ented. Recommendations are made for advancing family-based prevention in ke y areas: targeting high-risk and adolescent populations, customizing interv entions for individual families, working with multiple social systems, and integrating knowledge from the fields of prevention and treatment.
