Abstract
The activation of PLD is believed to play an important role in the regulati on of cell function and cell fate by extracellular signal molecules. Multip le PLD activities have been characterized in mammalian cells and, more rece ntly, several PLD genes have been cloned. Current evidence indicates that d iverse PLD activities are localized in most, if not all, cellular organelle s, where they are likely to subserve different functions in signal transduc tion, membrane vesicle trafficking and cytoskeletal dynamics.
