An up-to-date list of the amphipods from the English Channel is given for t
he first time counting 255 species. This inventory is based on recent syste
matics and suprabenthic studies. The number of species is higher in the wes
tern part of the Channel (Roscoff, Plymouth Golfe normano-breton) than in t
wo areas in the eastern part (Bay of Seine) and Wimereux: respectively, Ros
coff (202 species), Plymouth and Golfe normano-breton (194), Bay of Seine (
130) and Wimereux (136). The impoverishment of the amphipod fauna from the
western part to the eastern part of the Channel is due to a hydroclimatic g
radient. Two species are added to the list of the Marine Fauna from Roscoff
: Corophium sextonae and Lysianassa insperata.
