Abstract
An europium complex of 3,4-HDMBA and PHEN, Eu, (3,4-DMBA)(6) (PHEN)(2) was synthesized. The complex crystallizes in triclinic system, space group P (1 ) over bar with a = 1. 266 5(4) nm, b = 1. 356 7(4) nm, c = 1. 075 5(4) nm, alpha = 98. 87(3)degrees, beta = 108. 25(3)degrees gamma = 87. 98(2)degree s, Z = 1, R = 0. 031, M = 1 559. 35. Bonding around each europium consists of, two oxygen atoms from the bidentate chelated 3,4-DMBA, four oxygen atom s from four bridging 3 , 4-DMBA groups and two nitrogen atoms of a 1,10-phe nanthroline molecule. The two europium atoms are bridged by the tetrakis (c arboxylato-O,O') groups forming a dimer. Its high resolution spectra(HRS) w ere observed at 77 K with the Eu( III) ion as the fluorescence probe. The r esults of its excitation spectra, emission spectra , time resolution spectr a and emission lifetime show that there exist two Eu( III) ion sites in the complex.
