Abstract
Masking and entrainment are two different processes that result in rhythms in physiology and behavior. Considering its functional importance, lamentab ly little study has been devoted to masking compared to that lavished on en trainment. This paper discusses the origin and definition of terminology (p ositive and negative masking, paradoxical masking) and methods of quantifyi ng masking. How masking is scored can greatly influence the interpretation of results.
