Recent papers show that space charge configurations generated in sever
al plasma devices after a self-organization process are able to assure
their existence by a proper dynamics during which matter and energy a
re exchanged with the environment. This dynamics is macroscopically ev
idenced by ordered and disordered time structures observed in the curr
ent transported by the gaseous conductor. In this paper we discuss the
phenomenological basis of these time structures and its relation to t
he modem concepts of nonlinear dynamics. (C) Published by Elsevier Sci
