A theory for the extraordinary Hall effect in thin films is derived us
ing he Kubo formalism. We calculate the skew-scattering contribution t
o the Hall resistivity. Oscillations of the resistivity with the thick
ness of the magnetic layers are obtained similar to the diagonal resis
tivity, but as the Hall current is due to d-electrons, the period of t
hese oscillations is connected with the Fermi wave vector of the d-ele
ctrons. (C) Elsevier Science B.V.
