Spiral tilings with colour symmetry from dynamics

Computer generation of spiral tilings with colour symmetry is considered fr om a dynamical system's point of view. A relation is established between sp iral symmetry and wallpaper symmetry. Wallpaper patterns can be created by means of equivariant mappings. Associated spiral patterns can then be obtai ned accordingly. Patterns with colour symmetry are particular striking. A f ew colour schemes are discussed for the creation of patterns with colour sy mmetry. This method can be used to create a great variety of artistic spira l patterns. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd.
