Many exciting advances in our understanding of T cell mediated immunity to
bacterial infection have occurred in the past several years. T cell respons
es have been more fully characterized, due in part to the development of MH
C class I tetramers. The importance of cytokines and various effector molec
ules in defense against infection has come to light. Finally, intracellular
bacteria are being exploited to deliver antigens and DNA in an effort to i
nduce immunity to pathogens.
