Abstract
We analyzed the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the associated random a mplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) techniques in order to study the Miy azaki and Okinawa populations of the common silver-biddy Gerres oyena (Fors skal). Fourty-six bands were identified for the common silver-biddy using 1 3 random primers. Nine bands were observed in all of the common silver bidd ies in this study, and the Okinawa and Miyazaki populations can be distingu ished by using the A29-260 marker. In the inter-stock, the mean genetic sim ilarity index was 0.858 +/- 0.060 between individual specimens from the Miy azaki population, 0.822 +/- 0.085 for the Okinawa population acid 0.634 +/- 0.086 between them, respectively. In addition, a dendrogram distributed th e genotypes (the Okinawa and Miyazaki populations) into different clusters. These results showed that the Okinawa and Miyazaki populations of the comm on silver-biddy are genetically distinct.
