This paper presents the analysis and design of a single-phase single-stage
high-power-factor ac/dc converter employing a series-parallel resonant topo
logy operating in self-sustained oscillating mode. A control approach is pr
oposed to achieve low total harmonic distortion of the input current. This
approach does not require sensing of the input current. In addition, the in
verter output current is limited during transients, and the converter opera
tes with zero voltage switching for all operating conditions including open
and short circuit, The performance of the proposed scheme is verified expe
rimentally on a 500-W prototype.
