Abstract
Black and minority ethnic group users of mental health services receive, an average, significantly poorer services than their white counterparts in Br itain. The evidence indicates that there is a type of progressive filtering effect so that black Patients are increasingly over represented in higher levels of secure psychiatric care. This paper summarizes the evidence for t his form of social inequality.
