A. Bianchi et al., CHLAMYDIA-TRACHOMATIS GROWTH STIMULATES INTERLEUKIN-8 PRODUCTION BY HUMAN MONOCYTIC U-937 CELLS, Infection and immunity, 65(6), 1997, pp. 2434-2436
Growth of Chlamydia trachomatis serotypes L2 and L3 in a human monocyt
ic cell line, U-937, increased the rate of interleukin 8 (IL-8) releas
e 100-fold, Heat-killed chlamydiae induced a 10-fold-lower level of pr
oduction of IL-8. IL-8 mag play an important role in the inflammatory
reaction to chlamydial infection.
