Aj. Gonzaga et al., Successful suppression of cutaneous cryptococcal infection in an immunocompromised patient with fluconazole, J DERM TR, 10(2), 1999, pp. 145-148
An immunosuppressed patient with pancytopenia developed cryptococcal cellul
itis over his thighs, confirmed by histopathologic, serologic and cultural
studies. Culture of the blood, CSF, sputum, and urine were negative for Cry
ptococcus. A decision to put the patient on fluconazole alone was made. By
the 53rd week, his serologic examination for cryptococcal antigen had becom
e negative, He was likewise clinically cured of the infection and fluconazo
le was discontinued.
