On the basis of the solution to the equation for the desorption of ion
s from the surface of approaching colloid particles, the quantitative
criteria, characterizing the conditions for the applicability of the a
pproximations of constant charge or of quasi-equilibrium upon the calc
ulation of the retardation factor of the coagulation, were obtained. T
hese criteria simultaneously characterize the range of the parameters,
where the intermediate regime of slow coagulation is realized. The in
termediate regime was ascertained to be realized within a very wide ra
nge of parameters, covering approximately six decimal orders of magnit
ude.
