An expression describing the distribution of the potential of the late
ral face of the cylindrical particle aligned with the field was obtain
ed. On the basis of the balance of the flows of ions within the area o
f the most reduced adsorption and surface potential (one of the ends o
f the particle), the estimate of the surface averaged value of the ele
ctrokinetic potential was obtained. On this basis, the conditions were
indicated that provide reduction of the electrokinetic potential from
any high equilibrium value to 50-75 mV and under, and give rise to th
e nonlinearity.
