Abstract
The crystal lattice modulation of Er which is induced by various magnetic s tructures has been studied by means of X-ray diffraction technique under ma gnetic field along the a-axis of the hexagonal close packing crystal struct ure. At 35 K, the 2nd and 4th order satellites caused by the lattice modula tion have been observed below the magnetic field of 4.5 T, but the 6th orde r satellite appeared above 4.5 T in addition to the 2nd and 4th order satel lites. The result indicates the fan magnetic structure appeared above 4.5 T is strongly distorted. The magnetic phase diagram obtained by the present experiment is compared with the results by neutron diffraction.
