One of the experiences made in Germany after the Chernobyl accident in 1986
was that a compilation of countermeasures regarding the time phases of an
airborne plume is necessary. To achieve this aim, the Catalogue of Counterm
easures ("Survey of measures designed to reduce the radiation exposure afte
r events of considerable radiological consequences") was created The purpos
e of this Catalogue is to be a primary guide for selecting protection measu
res. The Catalogue consists of two parts. The first part allows time-phase
related decisions on initiating disaster control and precautionary counterm
easures in the agricultural and in the non-agricultural area. The second pa
rt of the Catalogue contains supplementary information, for example a summa
ry on theoretical principles together with the most important equations on
which the Catalogue is based.
