Impact of a polluting environment on overhead power delivery systems

This article presents a quantification of the negative effects of industria l pollution based on metallic material losses from electric networks, Indus trial maintenance by SC CONEL SA, Romania's national electric company, requ ires Geographical Information System (GIS) mapping of aggressive environmen t zones. Such zones were determined by correlating the values of natural ag gressive factors with those of the aggressive agents resulting from industr ial activity, or by measuring the corrosion rates of unalloyed steel.
