Abstract
A new method for calculating the optical basicity, electronic polarizabilit y and oxygen electronegativity of oxides and oxysalts has been evaluated ba sed on the concept of average electronegativity given by Asokamani and Manj ula. The estimated parameters are in good agreement with the Duffy values. The results are also discussed in relation to the nature of bonding. It is suggested that the impurity of average electronegativity in predicting diff erent parameters is well emphasised. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rig hts reserved.
