The decay process B --> D+ D- pi(0) is an interesting channel for the inves
tigation of CP violating effects in the b sector. We write down a decay amp
litude constrained by a low-energy theorem, which also includes the contrib
ution of resonant S- and P-wave b-flavored and charmed mesons, and we deter
mine the relevant matrix elements in the infinite heavy quark mass limit, a
ssuming the factorization ansatz and a suitable heavy meson effective chira
l Lagrangian. We estimate the rate of the decay: B(B --> D+ D- pi(0)) simil
ar or equal to 1 X 10(-3). We also analyze the time-independent and time-de
pendent differential decay distributions, concluding that a signal for this
process should be observed at the B factories. Finally, we give an estimat
e of the decay rate of the Cabibbo-favored process B --> D+ D- K-S for whic
h we find a branching ratio similar or equal to 9 X 10(-3). [S0556-2821(99)
