Verification of perennial ryegrass blends (Lolium perenne L.) using bulk seed storage protein electrophoresis

Twenty-six standard blends of up to five varieties of perennial ryegrass we re compared by bulk seed storage protein electrophoresis with 389 slightly differing test blends to study what kind of differences could be verified a nd to determine the level of detection. When a visual differentiation of th e banding patterns within a gel was not possible a densitometric evaluation was made. In 99% of the eases the minimum level of detection possible was with a level of 5% seeds not true to variety and in 1% of the cases with a level of 10%.
