A cationic tetranuclear platina-beta-diketonate complex of a platina-beta-diketone - an organometallic analogue of platinum blue complexes

The platina-beta-diketone [Pt-2{(COMe)(2)H}(2)(mu-Cl)(2)] (1) reacts with 2 ,2'-bipyridine (bpy) in equimolar ratio in the presence of TlPF6 to give th e cationic platina-beta-diketonato complex of a platina-beta-diketone [{(bp y)Pt(mu-COMe)(2)Pt[(COMe)(2)H]}(2)][PF6](2) (6). The complex was characteri zed by microanalysis, H-1 NMR and IR spectroscopy. X-ray structure analysis reveals that in solid state the complex 6.2CH(2)Cl(2) consists of tetranuc lear dications with Pt-4 zigzag chains [Pt-Pt-Pt angle: 124.71(3)degrees]. The Pt ... Pt distances [3.094(1), 3.183(1) Angstrom] give evidence for clo sed shell d(8)-d(8) interactions. Thus, this bis(acyl)-bridged complex can be formally regarded as an organometallic analogue of a platinum blue compl ex. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
