Abstract
Mutagenesis of Tyr420 to Ala in the catalytic cavity of squalene-hopene cyc lase of Alicyclobacillus acidocaldarius resulted in an altered product spec trum. Besides hopene and diplopterol, this mutant produced significant amou nts of the bicyclic alpha- and gamma-polypodatetraenes and minor amounts of the tricyclic 13 alpha(H)-malabaricatriene.
