Successive waves of periodical zone formation on the surface of Streptomyces levoris colonies

Periodic formation of sporogeneous air mycelium concentric rings on the sur face Of radiant streptomycetes colonies was studied. The phenomenon was obs erved in colonies grown on solid nutrient media with limited carbon and ene rgy source. It was shown for the first time by experimental and computer si mulation that zone forming occurs in the form of several successive waves. Each wave is, probably, structurally associated with the functional-morphol ogic differentiation of different orders of substrate mycelium hyph branche s.
